Should I get a muzzleloader?
12 GA slug vs .50 cal muzzleloader, taking in account power and long range accuracy, should I buy a muzzleloader?
Already got a shotgun.
The range of a 12 gauge with a rifled barrel and sabot slugs is about the same as a 50 cal muzzleloader with sabot bullets.
The muzzleloader is a PITA to use, and even more so to clean. Black powder and Pyrodex are both corrosive and must be promptly cleaned from the gun. It takes a couple minutes of loading for each shot and about an hour to clean the gun when you are done. You will get faster with practice, but it will always be a pain.
